VYPE – Bixby Spartans Basketball Update

Krista Binam (1st

13-14 Record: 10-13

Outlook: The Lady Spartans seek to rebound to among the top teams in Class 6A

basketball as Krista Binam takes charge as head coach with a trio of returning

starters. Points in the paint will be an emphasis for Binam’s squad as 5-11 junior

forward Sydney Stout returns to the blocks after leading the Lady Spartan’s scoring

as a sophomore. Senior guard Karlie Owens, a defensive specialist, is one of a

talented group of guards that Binam will rely upon to put points on the board

along with 5-11 junior Addison Richards, which according to Binam, is poised for a

breakout campaign.

Binam also expects contribution from the younger players including 5-8 freshman

guard Maddie Bittle and 5-6 sophomore Cassidy Sloan.

“Playing in Class 6A is tough every night,” admits Binam, “so we’ll have to learn from

every game and each opponent. This group of girls has a solid basketball IQ and that

will be a plus even though experience wise we’re going to start the year as a young

squad that will get stronger as the season moves along.”

13-14 Record: 18-9

Outlook: The outlook for the Spartans could be described as a year of transition as

only three players return with extended minutes of experience and statistics as 6-4

junior guard Parker Jennings (4.3ppg), 6-4 junior forward Payton Sullivan (2.4ppg)

and 6-1 sophomore Will Fiser (3.5ppg) take their place in Bixby’s lineup. Senior

forwards Zach Richwine and Glen Galvin, also had minutes last season that the

Spartans will try to expand into success this year.

Veteran head coach Scott Padek, now in his 6th

position before.

“It’s a team that is moving from role players to the spotlight,” said Padek, “and,

learning that transition against the kind of teams we play creates an awesome

opportunity for these kids. We’ll start the year untested, but after competing against

an always tough Frontier Conference schedule, I’m confident that by playoff time we

can make the grade.”
